
Sefer – Moscow Center for University Teaching of Jewish Civilization
The Center addresses the urgent needs of Jewish studies in universities in the CIS and Baltic States through its affiliate in Moscow, Sefer - the Moscow Center for University Teaching of Jewish Civilization, in association with the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, and with the academic cooperation of the Hebrew University 's Chais Center for Jewish Studies in Russian.
Sefer is an umbrella organization for Jewish studies in universities throughout the CIS and Baltic States. Its activities are essentially concentrated in assistance to university teachers in curriculum development and academic guidance of advanced students.
* Annual conferences - Sefer conducts an Annual International Interdisciplinary Conference in Jewish Studies that brings together scholars, educators and students from most countries of the CIS and the Baltic States, as well as from Israel, North America and Europe.
* Personalized tutoring and guidance at the Hebrew University for select university teachers from throughout the CIS and Baltic States.
* Individual mentoring in Moscow for select university teachers from outlying regions in the CIS and Baltic States, in a program sponsored by Stephanie and Herbert Neuman.
* Regional workshops for university teachers in central locations in the CIS and Baltic States, with the participation of faculty from the Hebrew University.
* Academic guidance for advanced students and junior faculty in a special academic program in Jerusalem designed by the Hebrew University's Chais Center for Jewish Studies in Russian, to help ensure a high level of future faculty in Jewish studies in the CIS and Baltic States.
